SFID customers will see an increase to their water rates effective January 1, 2025. 100% of this increase is from the San Diego County Water Authority, the region’s wholesale water provider. Customers should have received a notice in the mail about the cost increase. Costs for water purchases from SDCWA account for approximately 50% of SFID budget expenditures. SDCWA rates are increasing by approximately 14.9% and this will be passed on to SFID customers. The SDCWA rate increase is due to a variety of factors, including inflationary pressures, debt repayment and climate impacts.
SFID is currently evaluating its own rate increase. The Board of Directors will hear the proposed rate schedule on November 13 at 8:30 a.m. This meeting is open to the public, and customers are welcome to attend in person or virtually. SFID will hold several meetings to discuss the SFID potential rate increase prior to the final Board vote, which will take place in early 2025. More information about these Board meetings can be found at sfidwater.org.
