The District has posted a new “how to” video to help customers learn about the new Automated Meter Infrastructure, or AMI meter, and how to manually read the water meter.
The new automated meters not only look different than the current water meters used, they also require some additional attention to the delicate wires attached to the water meter lids. Customers are asked to be careful when lifting up the meter lids, as to prevent the attached wires from being damaged. If you are uncertain if your water meter has the wires attached, look for a black rubber circle on the top of the lid. This indicates that you have an automated meter and wires are attached to the lid.
This new “how to” video shows the customers, step by step, how to lift the lid, how to read the meter, look for water leaks, and determine how much water is used. In the future, a customer online portal will be available for customers to view their metered water usage.
These new, advanced water meters are being installed block-by-block throughout the District’s service area over a five year period. The AMI meters communicate water usage data via wireless technology to the District, ending the need to manually read the District’s 7,000 meters by hand, increasing the efficiency of reading meters. The District has divided the five year program into 6 phases.
Phase 3 of the Automated Meter Program will be completed by early April 2018. Phases 1 and 2 were completed last year and included the installation of approximately 1,280 automated meters, two antennae base stations, and automated meter system operating software. Phase 3 included the installation of an additional 1,230 meters throughout the District service area, and one additional antennae base station.
