The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recently honored the Santa Fe Irrigation District with their Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the District’s FY 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Receipt of this prestigious award is a monumental accomplishment and one of SFID’s strategic objectives in achieving fiscal accountability is transparently communicating its financial story.
This marks the 13th consecutive year that SFID has received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Each year, the GFOA presents this certification to government entities and special districts whose CAFR achieves the highest standards in government accounting and reporting. This report must satisfy both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and applicable legal requirements.
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
